The Sustainable Business Awards 2005 were held at the Guildhall, Winchester on 9 November and hosted by the popular TV wildlife presenter Bill Oddie OBE. Mary had the opportunity to meet Bill Oddie.
It was an exciting and enjoyable occasion and Bill kept the audience entertained with his spontaneous good humour as he handed out the awards to the lucky winners. Notes: Back in 1998, Mary proposed and formed the Environment Committee for the Portsmouth and South East Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This Committee was to advise and inform businesses of the raft of environmental legislation coming their way. By 1999, this Committee had grown to include a wide range of organisations and companies and was re-launched as the Business Environment Forum (BEF), with Mary as the first Chairman. She also organised the hugely popular event 'Building the Future for Hampshire' which heralded the launch of the BEF. Moving on to 2005, the BEF has grown and evolved to such an extent that it has become THE business and environment organisation for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight attracting funding from Hampshire County Council, the Environment Agency, Government Office for the South East and South East England Development Agency. This year saw a major name as the BEF changed its name to the Sustainable Business Partnership. |
