Hydro-ecology Web Site launched

Press release by Rowmark Marketing and Media

The growing importance of wetlands and the increasing concern over their disappearance in the South and South East of England has prompted hydro-ecology expert Ron Allen, Partner in Petersfield based The Environmental Project Consulting Group, to launch a new web site for businesses and government organisations alike dedicated to hydro-ecology.

Hydro-ecology is the science of water in relation to wetland wildlife habitats and how plant and animal communities interact with their supporting soil water, surface water and ground water systems. It brings together many disciplines like geology, hydrology, soil water regimes and ecology. Water and wetlands are under threat from development, abstraction and pollution and they are priority habitats in Biodiversity Action Plans.

The interactive website www.hydro-ecology.co.uk is one of the first to be developed in this specialist area and contains a useful source of information for organisations and businesses alike. It provides links to other bodies and associations as well as news on projects and how hydro- ecology impacts on developments and mineral extractions.

The web site has been developed by Portsmouth company The Page Designer who specialise in high end database driven web sites.

Ron Allen, a European Chartered Biologist and expert in hydro-ecology, advises organisations like English Nature, the Environment Agency, the Wildlife Trusts as well as housing, commercial and industrial development companies on how developments will affect wetland habitats. In addition, he runs courses on helping to assess the impact of development proposals on the wetland areas in Southern England and is a recognised expert in the UK. He says, ‘ Our aim is to help keep businesses and individuals up to date on this important matter.’

The Environmental Project Consulting Group evaluates wetland systems and provides wetland impact assessments in addition to designing new wetlands and preparing sustainable drainage systems. Projects include detailed surveys, studies and management schemes on former American Airbase site at Greenham and Crookham Commons, at Rushy Platt Nature reserve for Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and investigations of New Forest mires for the Forestry Commission.
