Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sustainable Business Partnership
|
2003 saw the first of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Business Environment Awards.
Background The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Business Environment Forum (BEF) began as the Portsmouth and South East Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Environment Committee. The BEF's main aim is to provide a one-stop-shop for businesses requiring advice, support or guidance regarding environmental issues. It is unique in that it delivers this through business to business. The Environment Committee was proposed in July 1998 by Chamber member Mary Allen, Director of The Environmental Project Consulting Group. She was the Environment Committee's original Chairman and subsequently the first Chairman of the BEF. The Forum has grown and widened gathering the support of other Hampshire based Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Hampshire County Council, Local Authorities, Government Office for the South East, the Environment Agency and the South East England Development Agency. The BEF was launched at the sell-out Biodiversity Conference "Building the Future for Hampshire" (proposed, planned and organised by Mary and sponsored by Government Office for the South East) held in March 2000 where the main speaker was Hilary Neal, Head of the Biodiversity Secretariat, DETR. |
